In Company with Angels

No matter how many times I see beautiful pictures of angels with wings like these, the experience always fills my heart with joy.

Waco, Texas, is a relatively small city, situated about halfway between Dallas and Austin. When my sister and her husband lived there, working as artists, I visited often. The artists’ community was thriving, and we went to galleries and openings and frequented events sponsored by the Historic Waco Foundation. I’ve followed their calendar ever since.

Sunday, November 3, will be quite a day for the Historic Waco Foundation. A traveling exhibit of a collection of stained-glass windows created by Louis Comfort Tiffany at the beginning of the twentieth century will be on display, a first viewing in the state of Texas. The exhibit, “In Company with Angels,” features seven awe-inspiring angels on lancet windows. A radiant star sits at the apex of each window, one more exquisite than the next.

Photographs cannot do justice to the intense deep colors that thrill those who see the exhibit with their own eyes. No matter how many times I see beautiful pictures of angels with wings like these, the experience always fills my heart with joy. The canvas of stained glass makes them even more transcendent.
