Patience and perseverance are virtues we should all aim for. Just ask popular singer-songwriter James Taylor.
Taylor has seen more than his share of success—he’s had 11 albums reach the Top 10 over the course of his career—but he’s never before seen one of his albums top the charts.
Until now. Taylor’s new album, Before the World, was released on June 16 through Concord Records, and it has quickly claimed the #1 position on the Billboard 200 chart dated July 4, 2015.
That adds up to a 45-year span between Taylor’s first appearance on that list, with Sweet Baby James on March 14, 1970, and his ascension to the top. Even so, those four-and-a-half decades aren’t the longest an artist has waited between his first charting album and attaining the top spot: Crooner Tony Bennett, who waited 54 years to reach No. 1, holds that record
