Shepherd’s Pie

This hearty and delicious dish will be a hit with the whole family—and company, too!

Shepherd's pie

Green beans cooked or canned may be added to the meat mixture in this delicious recipe.

Ingredients

2 lbs. potatoes ¼ c. chopped green pepper
1 Tbsp. butter 1 lb. ground beef
1 egg, beaten 1 tsp. Kitchen Bouquet or Worcestershire sauce
1 tsp. salt 2 tablespoons flour
⅛ tsp. pepper ½ tsp. salt
2 Tbsp. butter ½ tsp. pepper
½ c. chopped onion 1 c. cold water

Preparation

1. Preheat oven to 350. Cook potatoes until soft; mash, and add 1 tablespoon butter, egg, 1 teaspoon salt, and ⅛ teaspoon pepper; blend until smooth.

2. Meanwhile melt 2 tablespoon butter, add onion and green pepper, and cook 2 minutes; add ground beef. Add Kitchen Bouquet or Worcestershire sauce. Cook until lightly browned.

3. Mix flour, ½ teaspoon salt, ½ teaspoon pepper, and cold water; add to meat. Cook, stirring until thickened.

4. Put in casserole dish; top with potatoes. Sprinkle with paprika. Bake 20 minutes or until heated through.

Serves 8 to 10.
