LeBron James Helps Ohio Parents Earn GEDs

The Cleveland Cavaliers superstar is offering laptops, bus and parking passes for parents in Akron, Ohio to complete their coursework.

LeBron James Helps Ohio Parents Earn GEDs

LeBron James is one of the greatest athletes of all time. The Cleveland Cavaliers power forward and two-time Olympic gold medalist also has a big heart.

Last month, the Akron, Ohio native announced that each of the 1,100 children currently enrolled in the LeBron James Family Foundation’s education program and complete it will receive free tuition at the University of Ohio at Akron.

This week, he’s announcing that the same emotional and financial support he’s providing for the children in his program will be available to any of their parents who would like to earn their GEDs.

The parents will receive free laptops, and bus or parking passes to help them get to complete the coursework thanks to the four-time NBA MVP.

“This is an opportunity to help our parents make strides in their own academic careers so they are better equipped to help our students keep their educational promises,” LeBron James Family Foundation Executive Director Michelle Campbell says in a press release.

“We can’t reach our students without their parents’ support, so this program is monumental for our families and their futures.”

This new program for parents continues James’ expressed commitment to and love for the Akron community.  He started the Foundation right before he entered the NBA draft after graduating from high school in 2003 so that no matter where he ended up playing, he would always be able to support his community. James supports children from third grade through college, with his first class of students graduating in 2021.
