A God of Detail

His love is abundant in the colors, smells and sights of autumn

I love autumn! It’s an awesome time here in the mountains of North Carolina. The temperatures have dropped, and the air is crisp and invigorating.

During a drive down a country road last week, I enjoyed a field that was covered in fat orange pumpkins, farmers putting up rolls of hay in preparation for winter, cornstalks that had lost the green of summer, and trees that had just started wearing their fall colors of red, orange, burgundy and yellow.

Porches sported festive displays of hay bales, scarecrows and pots of colorful mums. Oh my, it made me feel good!

Michelle's husband selects autumn apples.October is National Apple Month, and that means it’s time to head to the orchards, to walk through rows of trees laden with red, green and yellow fruit, to meander through roadside shops sampling cider and bites of juicy apples.

Leaves have started falling from the trees, and as I drove across town this morning, it looked like it was snowing as the wind caught them, and they hung suspended in the air.

They’ve started piling up in our driveway and crunching under my feet as I walk into my house, and our neighborhood will soon be filled with the sound of children laughing as they jump into huge freshly-raked piles.

I marveled at God’s intricate design yesterday as I picked a leaf. Although it was now yellow, splotches of green still showed through, and it looked like Someone had sponge-painted shades of orange and red onto it. Gorgeous!

Yes, He’s a God of glorious detail. He cares enough to paint the leaves and to count the hairs on our heads. How could we ever think that He doesn’t care about the little details of our lives?

But the very hairs of your head are all numbered. Fear not therefore: you are of more value than many sparrows. (Luke 12: 7)
