Making Godly Choices

I can make the choice to let go of regret, and I can cling to the Lord’s grace and forgiveness.

I live in the great music city of Nashville, Tennessee. There is always something to do or see–a sporting event, a country music concert or the chance to hang out at one of the tourist hot spots.

So we receive our share of national attention, but it isn’t always positive. Not long ago, a Nashville university was thrust into the national spotlight regarding the criminal trial of several students.

As my husband and I followed the coverage, we occasionally disagreed about the developments in the trial. But one thing we agreed on was that five lives were changed drastically by split-second choices.

Choices change lives–not just that of the person making the choice but everyone around that person including family and friends.

Some choices are made out of knowledge, prayer and wisdom and lead to success and personal fulfillment. Others are made out of impulsiveness or peer pressure. These choices can lead to disaster.

I have made my share of bad choices–choices I’d like to forget or change. But I can’t go back. However, I can choose to let go of regret and cling to the Lord’s grace and forgiveness. He gives me hope through His Word that He will never leave me, nor will He forsake me even in the midst of my bad choices. He gives you the same promise.

Here are a few reminders to help you and your teen to make wise choices.

1)  Seek wisdom and the Lord in all you do. In my own life I ask the Lord to walk in front of me so that in every situation I face, He’s already there.

Trust in the Lord with all of your heart and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge Him, and He will make your paths straight. (Proverbs 3:5-6)

2)  Talk to your daughter about how today’s peer pressure may play a role in making unhealthy decisions and choices. Discuss risky situations–drinking, partying, fighting, etc.and the consequences that may result.

3)  Encourage her through your unconditional love to let go of past bad choices. We all make mistakes and have regrets, but the Lord is with you, and joy comes in the morning.

Be encouraged today as you choose your path.
