The Best Gifts

The Holy Bible is filled with encouraging verses to appreciate everyday blessings.

Woman holding gift

Think about the best gift you ever received. Maybe it was for your birthday or Christmas. Maybe it was one of those wonderful, unexpected presents given for no-reason-in-particular.

Just recalling a special gift—and the person who gave it to you—is enough to make you smile, to lift your spirits. But the truth is that, every day, you are the recipient of wonderful gifts. These come wrapped in blessing and love from your Heavenly Father. “Blessed be the Lord, who daily loads us with benefits” (Psalm 68:19).

Of course, God’s greatest gift was Jesus. “For unto us a Child is born, unto us a Son is given… And His name will be called Wonderful, Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace” (Isaiah 9:6). This babe born in Bethlehem became the Redeemer of all mankind. “The gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord” (Romans 6:23).

Dr. Eugene Peterson, in his paraphrase The Message, sums it up this way: “Just think—you don’t need a thing, you’ve got it all! All God’s gifts are right in front of you as you wait expectantly for our Master Jesus to arrive on the scene for the finale. And not only that, but God himself is right alongside to keep you steady until things are all wrapped up by Jesus” (1 Corinthians 1:7-9).

Now, go enjoy the rest of your day. It’s one of your (many) gifts!
