If your loved one needs the services of a health professional in his or her own home, you may want to look into home health care as a solution. Once a doctor prescribes home health care, you can enlist the services of a licensed agency to find the right fit. (Note, a physician must prescribe the home health services in order for these options to be used.

Home health care agencies are licensed by the state, but must also adhere to federal regulations. They provide in-home care, such as skilled nursing by Registered Nurses (RNs), Licensed Practical Nurses (LPNs) and Licensed Vocational Nurses (LVNs), sometimes in conjunction with other health professionals. These providers may also get assistance from a home health aide who can help with personal care such as bathing and using the toilet. Home health aides can also administer medication under the supervision of a nurse. Agencies can provide additional home health care services, such as physical and occupational therapy.

If you need help covering the costs of home health care, you may want to consider these options:

· Medigap
