Congratulations are in order for a 100 and 102-year-old couple who tied the knot after meeting in an assisted living facility in Ohio. John Cook Sr., 100, and his new wife, Phyllis, 102 had been dating for about a year before they decided to get their marriage license.

“It wasn’t the plan, but we got there and they said, ‘Well, we could marry you here,’” John told NBC 24. “I said ‘Good, let’s get it over with.’”

After meeting at the Kingston Residence in Sylvania, the couple got to know each other while enjoying meals together and sitting out in the sun. After realizing how compatible they were, Phyllis decided they should tie the knot.

“To tell you the truth, we fell in love with each other. I know you think that may be a little bit farfetched for somebody our age, but we fell in love with each other, ” she said.

According to the NBC affiliate in Toledo, OH, John, a World War II veteran, and Phyllis, originally from West Virginia, have each been married twice before.

Although John and Phyllis spend every day together, they each value the importance of their space by keeping their own apartments, with John living upstairs and Phyllis living downstairs.

The Cooks have another special occasion on the way when Phyllis turns 103 on August 8th.
