If you’re actively trying to lose weight, then you’ve probably read the same tips over and over again: Write down everything you eat; control your portions; eat 3 to 5 fruits and veggies a day; get moving, etc. etc. etc.
Well, I’ve discovered a completely original weight-loss secret never before published—and I can vouch for it working. Here it is: Get a lap cat.
Most evenings find me on the couch either watching TV or reading. Chances are good that at some point, I will want to snack. Luckily, Mimi, my tuxedo cat, comes to my rescue.
She approaches the couch, watching me wide-eyed. I know she wants to jump up and so I give her the OK sign with my head and say, “Come on up.” She jumps up and after sniffing and kneading, she settles into my lap, and before I know it, she’s dozing. Even though she’s pushing seven, she’s got that young, vulnerable, totally surrendered-to-sleep vibe.
Now, I simply can’t remove a napping cat from my lap. Even if I have to pee, I wait as long as I can just so I don’t disturb her, or my enjoyment of her presence.
And that’s the weight-loss part. If I put off getting off the couch long enough, my urge to snack disappears—really! I’m sure if you have a lap cat, you know exactly what I’m talking about: that reluctance to break the critter connection.
Yes, indeed, lap cats are truly the best-kept weight-loss secret!
