Seeing Christ Through His Creation

A photographer’s work may be imperfect, but God’s creation is always beautiful!

It is difficult at times for me to decide which part of my work to put on Guideposts. Photography is a never-ending learning process. Some things I have “perfected”–some things I have not.

My specialty is photographing hummingbirds. It is second nature to me most of the time.

I shoot manually, so I have to make all the decisions about how I want my camera to photograph my subject. I don’t often have to think about my settings when photographing hummingbirds.

There are different genres of photography. Landscapes, especially sunrises and sunsets, are not something I photograph often. There is a steep learning curve for me. I have to look through my notes and review the settings for my camera.

There is not much room for error when photographing sunrises and sunsets. I go through all the preparation of being in the right place at the right time, and I have a little bit of time before the sun gets too bright.

This photograph reminds me of a lesson learned the hard way. I got up early at 4:45 a.m. to get ready and drove 30 minutes to Driftwood Beach on Jekyll Island, Georgia. I had to be there well before the sun came up.

I did everything right, but there was one major problem–I did not clean the dust off my sensor so a million tiny spots showed up on my photograph. I had to do a lot of work to get this photograph to look half-way decent.

My photographs are not “perfect” but the essence of what I want you to experience as you look at my photography is to see Christ through His creation. Look past any imperfections in my technical ability and see the beauty He created!
