When It Comes to Love, Don’t Delay

Guideposts blogger Pablo Diaz stresses why it’s important to call or visit your loved ones today.

Why you should make it a point to spend time with family and friends today.

As humans, we tend to assume we’ll always have plenty of time to spend with loved ones so we may lack an urgency to call or visit. The truth is, life is too short to pass up opportunities. Someone once said, “Enjoy the little things in life, because one day you will look back, and realize they were the big things.”

Actor Liam Neeson wrote a touching piece about the unexpected passing of his wife, actress Natasha Richardson, in 2009:

“My wife died unexpectedly. She brought me so much joy. She was my everything. Those 16 years of being her husband taught me how to love unconditionally. We have to stop and be thankful for our spouses. Because life is very short. Spend time with your spouses. Treat them well. Because one day, when you look up from your phone, they won’t be there anymore. What I truly learned most of all is, live and love every day like it’s your last. Because, one day it will be. Take chances and live life. Tell the ones you love, that you love them every day. Don’t take any moment for granted. Life is worth living.”

Our visit on Earth is brief and sacred, as the Book of James in the New Testament states, “Why, you don’t even know what will happen tomorrow. What is your life? You are a mist that appears for a little while and then vanishes.”

We must make the most of the many small opportunities we are granted to live and love intentionally. When our own time comes to an end, what will matter most is our love for God and those close to us. What does it mean to you to love intentionally? Please share.

Lord, let me not to take my loved ones and friends for granted; help me to love them every day as if it were my last day.
