[MUSIC PLAYING] Hi, it’s Rick Hamlin. Psalm 113– “praise ye the Lord, bless the name of the Lord forever and ever.” prayer is that time in our lives often when we don’t know what to say, when we don’t know what to do. Sometimes we turn in prayer in times of loss, in times of confusion. Sometimes you don’t have any words, and the Psalms are here to give us words.
So when things are hard– and I did read this when things were hard because I was still very much worried about my brother-in-law. And I was still very much saddened by the loss of his friends and colleagues. I looked at this. And what do we do? “Praise ye the Lord.” “Praise ye the Lord.” Blessed is the Lord. Blessed is the man who follows the Lord.
You turn to these phrases and you find reassurance, and you find things to do. Praise him even in the dark times because he, as the song later says, he’s the one who can take that poor man– the one who is on the dust heap– and raise him to the level of princes. The poor becomes a prince in the side of the Lord, so we praise the Lord in good times and in bad. “Praise ye the Lord.”
