Guideposts Video: Inspiring True Stories
Hi, I’m Rick Hamlin and this is Psalm 45. Listen to the verse 2. You are fairer than the sons of men. Grace is poured upon your lips. Therefore, God has blessed you forever. This is about the King. The Psalms are often thought to be written by David, who was praising the King. And so, this is not a psalm that’s just addressed to God, but it’s a poem with wonderful words about a King and his daughters.
Sometimes, I believe– yes, of course, prayers are directed just to God. But sometimes, our words are for each other. I think here, this is a thank you note. It’s an expression to a friend thanking him for a kindness. It’s a wonderful thing to do, writing down all those good things for someone else. Yes, they’re meant for somebody– a friend, an associate– but doing things like that, we also express our thankfulness to God.
So a psalm like this, directed to the King, is also a way of praising God. Listen how it opens– my heart is overflowing with a good theme. I recite my composition. My tongue is the pen of a ready writer. My tongue is the pen of a ready writer. Thank you for a psalm like that.
