Pray the Psalms: Psalm 46

Watch as Rick Hamlin takes you through Psalm 46.

Pray the Psalms: Psalm 46

[MUSIC PLAYING] Hi, I’m Rick Hamlin and this is Psalm 46. God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble. Though the earth be moved, and the mountains be lifted up, and rolled into the sea, God is our refuge and strength.

Well, those are great words but sometimes it’s hard to find that. How do you find that reassurance of refuge and strength, that very present help? I– I love that word– that phrase so much, a very present help– I once used it as the title of a book– because he’s always present

But how do you find that presence? I find a phrase here in this Psalm that helps me find it. Be still and know that I am God. So take a great moment of stillness. James Gordon, who’s a psychologist, has this technique he calls deep belly breathing, that deep breath. Be still and know that I am God. And then you can know God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble.
