[MUSIC PLAYING] Hi, it’s Rick Hamlin.
Psalm 112— “A good man guides his affairs with discretion. He lends with discretion. He seeks righteousness. His heart is fixed.”
You know, when you read a psalm, it also determines a lot of the things you see in a psalm. And I read this psalm shortly after I received some devastating news. My brother-in-law was in a plane crash—a small plane. The five guys he was with were killed and he survived, miraculously, but such a terrible tragedy.
He struggled. He’s still struggling. He’s in a burn unit, and he’s struggling. And when I visited him, I took my psalms with me. And I thought of him– there’s this word that appears in the psalms, and it appears here—a righteous man.
Well, my brother-in-law was very much a righteous man. He is a righteous man. And this idea of our righteousness and how being a righteous man, living a righteous life, giving to the poor, handling your affairs with discretion, lending to others, keeping God in your sight– well, it’s who we are in good times and in bad.
And here we are—when we’re looking at our—the toughest time, and my brother-in-law is going through one of those toughest times. The word I wanted to say to him is, you are a righteous man. He sort of rolled up an eye. He was barely conscious and looked at me, nodded his head, and I said, you are a righteous man.
God is with the righteous man. My heart is fixed. We fix our—our heart is fixed on God in our righteousness.
Psalm 112.
