Lose weight. Make more time for family. Stick to a budget. Every year, millions of people make New Year’s resolutions. Yet by this time of year, most people are struggling to stay on track. Change is never easy. Even when the outcome has emotional, physical and financial benefits, the journey to the goal can be daunting.
Here are three tips and Bible verses to help you make 2017 the best year yet.
1. Pray about your resolutions.
Begin each morning discussing your goals and sharing your progress with God. Thank Him for successes and ask for help to overcome the challenges and difficulties you face. Remind yourself that each day is an opportunity to get closer to your goal—and to God.
2. Pray with others about your goals.
The passage, Matthew 18:20, “Where two or three are gathered in my name, there am I in the midst of them,” reminds us of the power of praying together. Share your resolutions with a prayer group or online community. On January 12th, OurPrayer, Guideposts prayer service, will host a Power to Overcome Day of Prayer, a special prayer event where staff, volunteers and thousands of online visitors pray to achieve their goals for the new year. 3. Strengthen your resolutions with Scripture.
Jot down your resolutions on index cards then add an encouraging Bible verse to draw inspiration and support from the Bible. Place the cards around the house, on the refrigerator, on the bathroom mirror, in your car and office to reinforce your intentions.
Here are some popular verses to keep you motivated:
“I can do all things through Him who strengthens me.” Philippians 4:13
“For God did not give us a spirit of timidity, but a spirit of power, of love and of self-discipline.” 2 Timothy 1:7

“But those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings as eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.” Isaiah 40:31
Rely on God’s strength and guidance to help you achieve your resolutions. With His help, your goals will become answered prayers.
