For God loved the world so much that he gave his one and only Son, so that everyone who believes in him will not perish but have eternal life. (John 3:16, NLT)
OK, so I was recently shopping in a local drugstore, and I passed by a display of boxes that said, “The Cookie Diet.”
Finally, I thought. A diet I will enjoy!
I was hopeful this new cookie diet would allow me to eat all of the chocolate chip cookies I wanted in a day and still lose weight. Well, upon further investigation, I learned I would only be able to eat six cookies a day and one small meal, and I had to eat the cookies from this company.
Still, six cookies in one day seemed like a dream come true so I bought the cookie kit! Once inside my car, I quickly unwrapped one of the cookies and inspected it. Finally, I sunk my teeth into it. Um…it wasn’t exactly a Mrs. Fields chocolate chip cookie, know what I mean?
If the cookies had tasted better, I might’ve been more excited about The Cookie Diet, but they didn’t. They were dry, and they had this really strange aftertaste. So, I simply chalked it up to another “too good to be true” gimmick I had fallen for in the world of weight-loss and headed home.
Ever been there? Ever heard a radio advertisement for “Lose weight while you sleep” and actually called the 800 number to order it? Ever watched a weight-loss infomercial at 2 am featuring exercise DVDs that use only strategic breathing to give you a toned, firm body and actually ordered them?
Yep, me too.
Why do we do such silly things? I’m always so aggravated with myself when I fall for yet another diet scam or wonder-working workout gadget, and I can hear my mom’s voice playing in my head, “Michelle, if it sounds too good to be true, it usually is.”
Bottom line, when it comes to the world of weight loss and exercise, that old expression that my mom swore by is pretty accurate. And, I have several drawers of magical pills, fat-burning potions, and cookie diets to prove it!
But, when it comes to Jesus, that old adage doesn’t apply. Hearing that God’s precious Son died on a cross for our sins so that we might have eternal life, and that he loves us unconditionally, and that he has a good plan for each one of us sounds too good to be true, but it’s not! It is the absolute truth!
I’m so thankful that I accepted Jesus as my Lord and Savior and continue to bask in His love daily. Aren’t you?
If you haven’t ever asked Jesus to forgive your sins and give you a new start, you can do that right now. You don’t have to be inside a church or have a pastor lead you in a special prayer to become a Christian. You can pray right now with me:
Father, I confess my sins, and I ask that you forgive me. I want you to be the Lord of my life and take complete control so that I will fulfill the plan you have for my life. Thank you, Lord, for loving me unconditionally. I’m so thankful you’re not too good to be true. In the mighty Name of Your Son, Jesus, Amen.
That’s it! I know it sounds too good to be true, but he is the truth. Jesus adores you. He sees the best in you, so receive his love today. Allow him to direct your steps and lead you into the plan He has for you. I promise–it’s even better than a Mrs. Fields cookie.
