Earnestly Contend for Faith

Beloved, when I gave all diligence to write unto you of the common salvation, it was needful for me to write unto you, and exhort you that ye should earnestly contend for the faith which was once delivered unto the saints.—Jude 1:3 (KJV)
In the above verse Jude urges us to “earnestly contend for the faith.” Do you protect and affirm your faith? It can be easy to become complacent and blind to weaknesses that you may have. Ask God to show you areas where you need to grow.
Heavenly Father, I don’t want to have lukewarm faith. Enflame my heart and prepare me for the future.

Faith in the Face of Injustice

You intended to harm me, but God intended it for good to accomplish what is now being done, the saving of many lives.—Genesis 50:20 (NIV)
How do you respond when faced with injustice? Turn to God and pray. Turn away from vengeance and instead look to Him to help you see the situation as an opportunity for growth and transformation. Instead of blowing up in anger, calmly ask God for the strength to be your best in this challenging situation.
Lord, I trust that my future is in Your loving care.

First Day of Advent

And Mary said, “Behold, I am the servant of the Lord; let it be to me according to your word.” And the angel departed from her.—Luke 1:38 (ESV)
On this first day of Advent, consider that moment when the angel appeared to Mary and asked her if she would be the mother of the Messiah. Her response, after the angel answered her question on how this would be, was one of trust. “Let it be to me according to your word.” As we prepare our hearts for Jesus’ coming, strive for that wholehearted faith of accepting God’s will with joy.
Lord, God, I trust Your goodness and wisdom in my life.

A Beautiful Makeover

Therefore, I urge you, brothers and sisters, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God—this is your true and proper worship.—Romans 12:1 (NIV)
When you focus on God’s love and loving others, your entire outlook shifts. Strive to be more mindful of how your energy affects others and be more giving and optimistic. Err on the side of compassion.
Everlasting God, help me love with my whole heart—generously and often—today and every day.

Do Something That Scares You

Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.—Joshua 1:9 (NIV)
Eleanor Roosevelt famously said, “Do one thing every day that scares you.” Doing one thing every day might be too daunting to begin with, but ask yourself, when was the last time you stretched beyond your comfort zone? If nothing comes to mind, you are due to seek out something a little scary. Be strong and courageous.
Lord, help me stretch beyond the safe boundaries that I have created. I know You are with me wherever I go.

Give Thanks

It is a good thing to give thanks unto the Lord.—Psalm 92:1 (KJV)
Brother David Steindl-Rast wrote, “The root of joy is gratefulness … It is not joy that makes us grateful; it is gratitude that makes us joyful.” Think of three things you are grateful for right now and feel the joy spread in your heart.
Heavenly Father, may the light of gratitude shine in my life.

Balm for a Restless Heart

The lions may grow weak and hungry, but those who seek the Lord lack no good thing.—Psalm 34:10 (NIV)
If you are feeling restless or unfulfilled, ask God to help reveal what is missing in your life. Perhaps you are being called to be of service, adopt a rescue animal or reach out to a neighbor in need. Pray on it.
Lord, help me fill in the missing pieces by being of service and bringing Your light to the world.

In His Shelter

Whoever dwells in the shelter of the Most High will rest in the shadow of the Almighty.—Psalm 91:1 (NIV)
God is your refuge and strength. If you are worried or stressed, turn to this verse and allow His love to envelop you. You are safe. Rest in the shadow of the Almighty knowing that all of life’s tests help you to grow stronger and closer to God.
Dear God, still my restless mind. I need Your reassurance that everything will be okay.

Serve Humbly

Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit. Rather, in humility value others above yourselves.—Philippians 2:3 (NIV)
Being of service to others helps you grow closer to God. When you give your time and energy to another in need, not for your own gain but in selfless service, you experience something greater than yourself. You allow God’s love to flow through you.
Lord, I am ready to humbly serve You. Show me where I am needed.

Sing God’s Praises

He put a new song in my mouth, a hymn of praise to our God.—Psalm 40:3 (NIV)

Our struggles, our successes, even our failures—these are not our song. God is our song. When you make time for Him, putting your faith first—you experience a new song, a new way of life, a symphony of His beauty.

Heavenly Father, help us to live joyously, to celebrate the song in our heart and rejoice always.

Sing God’s Praises

I will bless the Lord at all times: his praise shall continually be in my mouth.—Psalm 34:1 (KJV)
The above verse directs you to do something that sounds difficult: Sing God’s praises always, in good times and in bad. Sing His praises even when you feel downcast. Voicing His praises can be the catalyst—the glimmer of hope—that turns your mood around.
Heavenly Father, how amazing is it that when I sing Your praises, You uplift my spirit.
