A Time to Be Quiet

The Lord is in his holy temple; let all the earth be silent before him.—Habakkuk 2:20 (NIV)
Sometimes, it can be incredibly meaningful to stop praying and simply rest in God’s presence. Prayers don’t always need to be spoken. Instead, be sure to make time to sit quietly with Him. No words are necessary.
Lord, in the words of Ecclesiastes 3:7, there is a time to be quiet and a time to speak.

Don’t Withhold Kindness

Do not withhold good from those to whom it is due, when it is in your power to act.—Proverbs 3:27 (NIV)
This verse asks you to reflect on the relationships in your life. Are you withholding a kind word or gesture from someone who deserves it? If someone comes to mind, ask God to help you correct the situation.
Heavenly Father, guide me to be generous with kindness. I want to make someone’s day better by letting them know they are valued and loved.

For Those Who Wait

Wait for the Lord; be strong and take heart and wait for the Lord.—Psalm 27:14 (NIV)
Is there a persistent prayer in your life that God doesn’t seem to be answering? When you struggle with the fear that God isn’t hearing you and is letting you down, share your frustrations with Him. Let Him know you are willing to accept His answer.
Dear Lord, grant me the courage to change my expectations and wants if that is Your plan. Help me to accept situations I wish were different.

Led by the Spirit

For the Holy Spirit will teach you at that time what you should say.—Luke 12:12 (NIV)
Do you plan difficult discussions in your head—going over what you might say and rehearsing challenging conversations ahead of time? When you are approaching an uncomfortable meeting, pray and be open to hearing from the Holy Spirit. Follow His guidance. He will help you know the right thing to say.

Have you considered the present tense of this verse? Jesus weeps. He cares deeply about you, and when your heart hurts, He feels your pain. You never have to suffer alone. Reach out to Him and He will wrap His loving arms around you.

Blessed by God’s Love

And so we know and rely on the love God has for us. God is love. Whoever lives in love lives in God, and God in them.—1 John 4:16 (NIV)
The late Brian Doyle, beloved contributor of Guideposts devotions, wrote, “Love is the story and the prayer that matters the most.” Today, on Valentine’s Day, embrace God’s limitless love, and discover the power of letting go of judgments and expectations. Open your heart to spread His heavenly Light.
Dear Lord, may the radiance of Your love bless my life and the lives of all those around me.

God’s Watchful Care

I am with you and will watch over you wherever you go, and I will bring you back to this land. I will not leave you until I have done what I have promised you.—Genesis 28:15 (NIV)
Reflect on this verse and the times in your life when you have been conscious of God’s watchful care. Recall when you were worried, and He kept you safe from harm. Then recite this line from an old hymn, Lead, Kindly Light: “So long Thy power hath blest me, sure it still will lead me on.”
Father in Heaven, thank You for promising to protect me and guide me through life’s ups and downs.
