In Times of Hardship

Give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.—1 Thessalonians 5:18 (NIV)

It may seem strange to be thankful for sorrow and hardship, but even unavoidable and painful experiences have an upside. Difficult times shine a lens on what is truly important in your life. They are moments of growth that teach valuable life lessons of compassion, faith and understanding. Know that whatever you are going through, Jesus is with you.

Heavenly Father, I am grateful for Your healing presence in my life.

The next time you’re comparing yourself to another person, or examining a goal that you didn’t reach, turn to the above verse and know that Jesus sees you—every single perfectly imperfect part of you— and loves you. He not only sees you as you truly are, but sees the person He created you to be… and is helping you become.

Heavenly Father, today I will try to be kind to myself, to let go of judgment and rest in Your love.

The Light of His Love

Jesus came into the dark of this world and healed us with His light and great love. He sees, knows and hears all. This verse is a reminder of God’s promise that You are never alone—and no matter how dark a situation might seem, all is possible through His glorious Light.

Heavenly Father, take my hand when I feel alone. Shine Your love on me.

Is your faith cloaked in fear? Do you worry about big things and little things, what-ifs and what has already happened? In the above verse Jesus tells us not to worry. Worry is a choice, a wrong choice. Instead focus your trust in Him.

Dear God, I give You my worry list so that You may give me Your peace.

Sufficient in His Hands

“How many loaves do you have?” Jesus asked. “Seven,” they replied, “and a few small fish.”—Matthew 15:34 (NIV)

Jesus is at His best when the odds are at their worst. In the above verse Jesus faced a crowd of a thousand hungry people with seven loaves of bread, and a few fish, but amazingly it was more than enough. Instead of worrying about what you don’t have, focus on abundance and trust in Jesus’ provision.

Heavenly Father, because of You I know I will always have enough.
