Chasing the Wind

All of them are meaningless, a chasing after the wind.—Ecclesiastes 1:14 (NIV)
The Bible tells us that trying to find happiness on our own is a tiresome task—meaningless and useless— like chasing the wind. Instead of striving to pursue our own desires, we can find true contentment and joy by looking to God. Only His peace can truly satisfy.
Lord, Maker of the wind, I seek Your presence with all my heart.

Strength Under Pressure

They were angry with Jeremiah and had him beaten and imprisoned in the house of Jonathan the secretary, which they had made into a prison.—Jeremiah 37:15 (NIV)
The prophet Jeremiah was punished and imprisoned for sharing God’s message. Yet, he was faithful and obedient, following God’s instructions and completing his life’s mission. To those around him, he was most likely judged as a failure. Reflect on how man often measures success using different standards than God’s.
Almighty God, give me strength when I am under pressure so that I can faithfully serve You.

Grow a Forgiving Heart

You, Lord, are forgiving and good, abounding in love to all who call to you.—Psalm 86:5 (NIV)
Do you follow Jesus’ example and strive to forgive others and release grudges you have against those who have harmed you? By opening your heart to forgiveness, you heal the hurt that lives inside you, and can draw closer to God, the true source of joy and love.
Lord Jesus, thank You for the gift of forgiveness, which sets me free from the pain of the past and opens up a future that is filled with Your glory.

God’s Wondrous Works

And Elisha prayed, “Open his eyes, Lord, so that he may see.” Then the Lord opened the servant’s eyes, and he looked and saw the hills full of horses and chariots of fire all around Elisha.—2 Kings 6:17 (NIV)
In the above verse, the servant’s eyes are opened to another realm, and he sees God’s mighty army protecting them. As your faith grows, your “spiritual vision” will become more transparent, and you will be able to clearly see God working in your life and the lives of those around you.
Lord, help us to have spiritual eyes so we may see Your wondrous works.

Celebrate Freedom

I have chosen the way of faithfulness; I have set my heart on your laws. I hold fast to your statutes, Lord; do not let me be put to shame. I run in the path of your commands, for you have broadened my understanding.—Psalm 119:30–32 (NIV)
Today, as we celebrate Independence Day, reflect on the many blessings God has given our nation. Pray for those who have sacrificed and served to protect our freedom; pray for peace among nations and all people.
Lord, make us worthy of Your gift of freedom.

Give Your Worries to God

Therefore, I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more than food and the body more than clothes?—Matthew 6:25 (NIV)
Is the cloak of fear affecting your faith? Do you worry about big things and little things, what-ifs and what has already happened? In the above verse, Jesus tells us not to worry. Instead, put all your trust in Him.
Dear God, I give You my worry list so that You may give me Your peace.

See His Light

As he neared Damascus on his journey, suddenly a light from heaven flashed around him.—Acts 9:3 (NIV)
In this verse, Saul had an incredible experience that changed him from persecuting early Christians to following Christ. How has God changed your heart? Reflect on a past experience when He revealed His light of truth to you.
Lord, thank You for helping me to see Your truth and to follow Your guidance today, tomorrow and always.

Less Judging, More Loving

Let love and faithfulness never leave you; bind them around your neck, write them on the tablet of your heart.—Proverbs 3:3 (NIV)
It happens to the best of us—we make rush judgments about people based on wrong information or an unpleasant first impression. The next time you are about to discount someone, reflect on this verse and focus on seeing Christ in them.
Dear God, help me to be less critical and more loving. Guide me to approach others with compassion, patience and love.

Wherever You Go

I am with you and will watch over you wherever you go, and I will bring you back to this land. I will not leave you until I have done what I have promised you.—Genesis 28:15 (NIV)
God promises to watch over you wherever you go. His presence is constant. If something has happened that causes you to worry that He has abandoned you, reflect on people in the Bible who experienced the same feeling: Jacob, Noah, Abraham, Moses and Samson to name a few. God is with you even when you doubt His presence. He offers guidance and peace. He always keeps His promises.
Lord, You are my refuge and strength. I have nothing to fear.

His Goodness Shines

So God created the great creatures of the sea and every living thing with which the water teems and that moves about in it, according to their kinds, and every winged bird according to its kind. And God saw that it was good.—Genesis 1:21 (NIV)
Everything God made reflects His goodness. When you are focused on your own flaws or feeling down about the world and your circumstances, reflect on the wonders of God’s creation and know that His goodness shines in you, too.
Creator God, change my perspective so that I see Your beauty in all my experiences.

God Is Still in Control

The Lord our God be with us, as he was with our fathers. May he not leave us or forsake us.—1 Kings 8:57 (ESV)
When life takes an unexpected turn and you feel lost and bewildered by your circumstances, turn to God. He will never leave you. You are not lost. You are exactly where you are supposed to be—in the comfort of His presence.
Dear Lord, You are always with me, and because of this truth I am never alone or lost.

The Joy of Faith

For his anger lasts only a moment, but his favor lasts a lifetime; weeping may stay for the night, but rejoicing comes in the morning.—Psalm 30:5 (NIV)
What brings you joy? Is it a beautiful sunrise? The laughter of a loved one? Today, take a moment and reflect on the many gifts of grace that God has given you. Often we focus so much on our worries that we neglect to see what is certain and constant—His many blessings. Remind yourself that no matter what you are going through, as Psalm 30 promises, “joy comes in the morning.”
Heavenly Father, my joy is knowing that I can trust Your promises to always lift my spirits.
